Nov 1, 2008: Nonduel Wisdom and Psychotherapy Conference at California Institute of Integral Studies

Public Programs at CIIS is pleased to offer the Nonduel Wisdom and Psychotherapy Conference with the central theme of Embodied Awakening as part of a wide range of programs to spark inspiration and dialogue on a variety of important topics.

Nonduality derives from the Sanskrit word advaita which means "not-two," referring to the understanding of a fundamental consciousness that underlies the apparent distinction between perceiver and perceived. From the nondual perspective, the split between self and other is a purely mental construct. This understanding, rooted in the direct experience of countless sages through millennia, is at the heart of Hindu Vedanta, most schools of Buddhism, Taoism, and mystical Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

This annual cutting-edge conference hosts leading therapists and teachers who are exploring the confluence of nondual wisdom and psychotherapy. How does psychotherapy change when therapists and clients awaken to and embody their true nature as open, lucid Awareness that is essentially not separate from the whole of life?

Presented by the Association for Transpersonal Psychology and CIIS's Integral Counseling Psychology Program and co-Sponsored by JFK, ITP, and the Center for Timeless Wisdom, main conference presenters include:
Prema Maia Apolonia, PhD
Rudolph Bauer, PhD, ABPP
Judith Blackstone, PhD
Marlies Cocheret,MA, CHT
Peter Fenner, PhD
Loch Kelly, M. Div., LCSW
David R. Loy, PhD
Laura Parnell, PhD
John Prendergast, PhD
There will also be two preconference workshops: Thursday October 30 with Peter Fenner & Friday October 31 with Rudolph Bauer and a very special event on Friday October 31 (7:30-9pm) with Loch Kelly entitled, The Heart of Awakening: Experiencing Embodied Awareness.

Oct 17, 2008: Queer Bodies in Psychotherapy Conference at Hotel Whitcomb

Public Programs at CIIS presents this groundbereaking conference as part of a wide range of programs that spark inspiration and dialogue on a variety of important issues. Queer Bodies in Psychotherapy calls attention to queer sexualities, identities, and practices that are inadequately addressed in both psychodynamic and somatic psychologies.

Work with queer populations has been undertheorized, undersupervised, and underdeveloped in both talk therapy and body-oriented psychotherapies. This conference will question and explore ideas concerning how queer sexualities, identities, and lifestyles can be imagined, held, facilitated, and explored in various educational and therapeutic contexts.

The Queer Bodies in Psychotherapy Conference is an opportunity for LGBTQI and straight therapists, queer theorists, somatic therapists and practitioners, members of various queer communities, scholars, activists, and educators to surface questions, develop theories, share case examples, and explore best practices in this emerging field. The Somatic Psychology Department at CIIS is organizing this conference as part of our ongoing commitment to exploring issues of embodied difference, marginalization, and the sociocultural understandings of somatic formation.

The conference, which begins with a special performance of "Sex/Body/Self" by Tim Miller and culminates with a keynote address, "Show Me Your ID," by poet and activist Jewelle Gomez, will feature more than 20 workshops and lectures, including topics that address cultural meanings of gender and sexuality, HIV/AIDS across queer generations, queer parenting/families, as well as the healing potential of BDSM.

The conference is cosponsored by CUAV - Community United Against Violence; Jewish Mosiac: The National Center for Gender and Sexual Diversity; Maia Midwifery and Preconception Services; New Leaf: Services for our Community; Pacific Center; The Psychotherapy Institutute; Women's Therapy Center; and Visual Aid.

$225 for Conference; $25 for Tim Miller Performance (Limited Number of Tickets Available).

CanUX brings together industry leaders, hands-on activities, and working design and technology professionals.

This year's speakers include Dave Gray (XPLANE), Brandon Schauer (Adaptive Path) and Luke Wroblewski (Yahoo).

For two and a half days, participants work in the middle of breathtaking scenery matched by a mix of practical tools and inspiring brand-new ideas. Unlike a typical conference, CanUX focuses on sessions that are long enough to give hands-on experience with the topics at hand. With a cap of 70 attendees and the retreat-like atmosphere of the venue, there is a special camaraderie among participants.

Jan 5, 2009: Macworld Pre-Keynote Group meetup (5th Annual) at Apple Store

Many Mac users come to Macworld with a dream and a desire to see Steve Jobs speak live to the masses. They arrive early in 40 degree weather all alone holding their iPods tightly and counting the minutes until Steve takes the stage.

I created the pre-keynote meetup in 2005 to help you and your boredom and to make some new friends. Here’s the plan.

We all meet at 3AM at the Apple Store on Stockton St., have some conversation and snap some photos commemorating the event (cause nothing sucks more than saying you were at Macworld and you don’t have one photo of yourself). From there, we walk over to the keynote line at Moscone center and now you’ve met some interesting people to make the time in line a lot easier to handle. There might even be some coffee and doughnuts for you all.

Last year, http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/270621/ , we had over 50 individuals show up outside of the Apple Store at 4AM. After we each took some photos of this memorable event we walked down to the Moscone center and were probably 40th in line for the keynote.

Here’s the schedule
3AM: Apple Store @ Stockton St
3:30: Walk to Moscone to get in line and prepare for the Stevenote
4:30: I hope to have a ride to help me go get some doughnuts and coffee for the tired and shivering masses

If you have any questions, email me at macworld@dailytechtalk.com or check out all of our events at http:/macworldbound.com or http://upcoming.yahoo.com/group/3983/

Oct 25, 2008: Macoun `08 at Haus der Jugend Frankfurt e.V.

Nov 20, 2008: SciCom08 at Technische Universität Wien
