Oct 29, 2008: EconWomen at Edison Ballroom

EconWomen will focus on the economics of women-centric digital media. The first wave of internet development included a lot of efforts aimed at women-and many failed, consolidated or had to morph because they were too far ahead of critical mass. That critical mass is finally here, with women not only online but spending large amounts of time and money. Media companies old and new are wooing women through gender-specific sites, demo-based ad networks and lifestyle portals. Established companies like iVillage and Oxygen have been gobbled up by big media (NBC Universal (NYSE: GE), in those cases) while new players like Glam, wowOwow, Sugar, Yahoo! (NSDQ: YHOO) Shine, and others have entered the field.

$300 - standard admission.

From major leagues to the half-pipe, sports is a topic that touches everyone-and it seems like everyone is looking for ways to make new media money from it. Media companies and leagues have been on the forefront of adopting digital media technologies but the business of online sports ranges from community-based little league sites to real-time streaming video of major and minor sporting events.

EconSports will delve into everything: the complicated economics of league rights, data business, syndication, exclusivity, premium and more. This is just one part of our trifecta of conferences, taking place in the morning before EconWomen and the day after our second annual

Oct 14, 2008: Digital Media Quarterly Series: Mobile Media at Fish & Richardson P.C.

Following up on last year's highly successful conference, join SDForum for this new quarterly dinner series as we track what's happened since then and delve deeper into the hot topics related to the business and technology behind digital media today. What are the business models that will sustain digital media companies going forward? Where are the pitfalls? And what technologies are driving new media? Who controls the content? These topics and many more will be addressed in this quarterly evening series.

There were over 3 billion mobile phones last year across the world, the most ubiquitous device for communicating and consuming media that exists- more than laptops, ipods, game boys. Mobile phones represent our every day "entertainment-delivery-devices" and will continue to grow as the technologies supporting them improve.

This panel will focus on what this trend means for media, how media companies are going mobile and what the next generation of devices and content will look and feel like. What are the devices of the future? What content will people expect to have and what will they use? What new technologies and services are coming our way? Who cares and who's investing now for the future?

Agenda:
