Christy Georg to Discuss Kinetic Art at October Dorkbot Gathering

Typewriters that argue with each other, mobile phonographs, and a device that tunes its own sounds are among Christy Georg’s artwork she will discuss at the October 7, 2008 gathering of Dorkbot Boston at the Charles River Museum of Industry in Waltham, MA. The talk is free and open to the public.

Christy Georg is an artist specializing in kinetic sculpture. Christy Georg has been called “a sculptor of wit and ingenuity, clearly in the tradition of Jean Tinguely and Bruce Nauman, but brilliantly original in her use of existential humor to invigorate the works” by sculptor Rob Fisher. Born in Chicago and raised in Houston, she received her MFA from Massachusetts College of Art, her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, and studied glassblowing at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. She has exhibited widely, having solo exhibitions at the Contemporary Artists Center in North Adams, the Roswell Museum, Gettysburg College, and University of Massachusetts at Lowell. She has been awarded residencies at SculptureSpace, Ross Creek Art Center in Nova Scotia, Fine Arts Work Center, Vermont Studio Center, Boston’s Berwick Research Institute, Roswell AIR program, and the MacDowell Colony.

Nov 22, 2008: CyborgCamp 2008 at WorkSpace

This conference has been declared Portland-only for now. To RSVP for the Portland event, go here: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/1098808

CyborgCamp is a simulcast unconference about the future of the relationship between humans and technology. We'll discuss topics such as social media, design, code, inventions, web 2.0, twitter, the future of communication, cyborg technology, anthropology, psychology, and philosophy.

CyborgCamp's aim is to have many communication channels such as Twitter, Flickr, UstreamTV, Video and Audio recordings and live chats displayed on the screen. In this way, the conference attendees can exist in three places at once -- Vancouver, Portland, and Cyberspace.

Half of the conference will be organized BarCamp style, and the other half will have structured experts on various topics.

Classrooms, individuals and businesses are encouraged to attend the event remotely. It will be livestreamed through multiple channels and will be archived and tagged for future viewing. Details on remote conference access will be available a week before the conference begins.

What is a cyborg? A cyborg (shorthand for “cybernetic organism”) is a symbiotic fusion of human and machine. Join in our pre-conference discussion and help organize the event at http://www.cyborgcamp.org and faster updates on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/cyborgcamp.

CyborgCamp is open to sponsors. We're interested in cutting edge companies or non-profits who are interested in education/technological development. Please E-mail caseorganic@gmail.com if you or your organization/business is interested in this. Your logo will be added to any paper brochures, the website, and will be included in live Twitter streams during the event.
