Featuring interviews and musical performances from a diverse cast of women including Remy Ma, Rah Digga, Jean Grae, Erykah Badu, Estelle and newcomers Chocolate Thai, Invincible and Miz Korona, this powerful documentary delves into the amazing personal stories of women balancing professional dreams with the stark realities of poor urban communities, race, sexism, and motherhood, as the more than 18 artist featured in Say My Name battle for a place in a society that creates few chances for women. This hands-on session from the University, which is part of Manchester Science Festival, looks at the way that the universe has been imagined in paintings, poetry, and scientific equipment over the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

People attending this event will be invited to picture the night sky and create their own picture-in-words of the stars and planets.

They will have a chance to explore and discover the different methods that have been used over the years to represent the universe, such as: the orrery in the Museum's reception area, creating a human orrery with the students themselves, looking at paintings of the night sky and images from a modern telescope, celestial globes, old and new microscopes, poetry written about the stars.

These sessions will teach students about the solar system, but also ask them to think about the way that this is imagined, and how representations of the night sky have changed over time.

exposures is a collaborative film festival organised by Cornerhouse, University of Salford and AbbottVision and is in its 16th year. It is the only regular UK-wide festival for student films and moving image and is a crucial showcase for new talent and they need new entries for the 2009 event.

The deadline for this year's entries is 31 July 2009.

Last year Shameless creator, Paul Abbott, of AbbottVision, became exposures' patron. Paul has been very involved in developing new ideas and in shaping the festival.

Russell T Davies, producer and writer of Doctor Who, and Danny Boyle, director of Slumdog Millionaire, as well as many other leading people in the film industry, have contributed to the festival over the years and continue to offer their support towards its aim to become the UK's premiere student film festival dedicated to nurturing, developing and promoting new talent.

Any students who have made a film whilst studying at a UK educational institution, can enter their film as long as it is under 30 minutes in length. There is no theme for the competition and it is open to animation, visual art films, documentaries, fiction & drama or any other type of film students wish to make.

Our 2009 Hamilton Fringe Festival Show Synopsis

"Type 2- A Tragic Comedy" is a sensitive, realistic
portrayal of the highs and lows of bipolar disorder.
The story chronicles the career of a stand up comic
who suffers from the illness. We also see how
her periods of depression and mania affect her
husband and their relationship. "Type 2" is a
rags to riches to reality tale that pulls no punches
from either viewpoint. The show features the
re-teaming of comic genius Michelle Mainwaring,
who won WODL Best Actress award for her dark,
dramatic portrayal of Annie Wilkes in "Misery" and
her partner in that production Jason Gale who was
nominated for best actor.
Gale wrote the script, utilizing his research and personal battle
with the illness. If you know or think you know
someone who is bipolar, you must see this show.

The event is being put on by the Friends of Graeme Park, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. The Governor Keith Society sponsor is the Days Inn, Horsham. Artisans, craftspeople and other merchants will sell unique and unusual wares at the international marketplace.

The Health Fair Pavilion will provide free screenings for blood glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure. Men's and women's health information and tips on healthy eating and active lifestyles will be provided in languages such as Spanish, Taglog, Punjabi and Hindi. Hosted by volunteers and Kaiser Permanente, Washington Hospital, Sahaita, American College of Nurses, Black Nurses Association, and others.

Don't miss this fun-filled, all-day festival - the last major Union City 50th Anniversary activity of the summer.

The food offered at the Festival is carefully selected. Each food vendor is required to have one item on the menu that includes Mandarin oranges. Last year, a recipe for Mandarin orange gelato was developed especially for the Festival. You'll find Mandarin orange flavored pistachios and almonds; pulled pork and sausages; coffee, smoothies and adult beverages; a variety of sauces, syrups, jams, jellies and marmalade; infused olive oil; and chocolate dipped Mandarin oranges!

The quality and innovation of the Mountain Mandarin Festival has received state-wide recognition. Proceeds from the Festival fund three scholarships presented each year by the Newcastle Area Business Association. Crowds have grown from 1,500 in 1993 to 40,000 in 2008.
