Kids and adults work together to take on a Dexter’s capuchin monkey cousin, a not-so-woolly mammoth with tooth trouble, personal items that belonged to Teddy Roosevelt, a dance that Sacagawea would have done, a scary Easter Island statue, an attack by a monster whale, a slice of a giant tree, humongous warring mooses, Aztec and Incan warriors, dangerous dinosaurs and more. Please note that if you would not take your kids to see “Night at the Museum”, then you should not take them on this hunt. Expect plenty of holiday cheer, laced with overtones of Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, jazz and more, when Allison Crowe, together with guests, the Campbell River Childrens Choir with Director Barbara Prowse, bring "Tidings".

This holiday concert also brings aid to a pair of essential non-profit groups: the Campbell River Hospice Society and CR Food Bank. The mission of the Hospice Society is "to provide compassionate support and companionship to individuals facing death, their families and friends and to those grieving a loss due to death". The group's motto: "Support when you need it most". The Campbell River Food Bank fills another great need in the community. For more than two decades now, it has provided sustenance for people year-round. Though the holiday season brings joy, it can mean extra stresses for many. In today's difficult economic times the work of the Food Bank's volunteers is especially beneficial now. Donation of non-perishable foods is greatly appreciated - and any food donations will be collected at the concert! Campbell River's Ron Nicolaye is, once again, the impresario bringing together music and people for a special night of fun and fundraising.

Leading off this night of festive fun will be the voices of the Campbell River Children's Choir. The Chamber choir is all girls and there are boys and girls in the main choral groups. The community-based C.R. Children's Choir helps youth experience the joy of music, learn about other cultures and work with internationally acclaimed musicians at home and abroad. Over the years, the choir has performed in venues across Canada, the United States, Cuba and England. Some of the choir's singers have gone on to pursue careers as performers or, even, to have choirs of their own.

The Chamber Choir is a group of dedicated young people who attend extra rehearsals and challenge their skills with more difficult music. They will perform with, and under the guidance of, Director Barbara Prowse. Since joining in last year’s Tidings concert, the troupe has sung at the Pacific Rim Children's' Choir Festival in Hawaii and with Su Hart of the Afro Celtic Band "Baka Beyond".

KidLit 2010 will be held on South Main Street in Princeton on Sept. 25, 2010, and will retain much of the same carnival atmosphere as Festival 9 3/4 with activities, games and food. The difference is KidLit will encompass the entire genre of children’s literature rather than focus on just one element.

Some things in the early planning stages include deciding which of Harry Potter elements to keep, a Mad Hatter Tea Party, and a golden ticket hunt like in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” There will also be classes, perhaps Forensics 101 for kids who love Encyclopedia Brown or Nancy Drew, and classes for adults, such as teaching adults how to write for children or storytelling workshops.

There’s no telling exactly who will be in the 6-8 person rotating cast, but we’re offering a double-your-money-back guarantee that you’ll laugh your ass off!

The format is long-form Improv. Based on a single suggestion from the audience, a guest monologist will tell a funny story or two. The Improv cast will perform completely unscripted scenes based on the monologist’s story content. It’s f’ing hilarious.

Typically, there are one or two performers from SNL or 30 Rock – Horatio Sans or Jack McBrayer. We’ll likely also see a few of the following: Neil Casey, Chris Gethard, Ellie Kemper, Bobby Moynihan, or Shannon O’Neill.

Since this is a FunList event, there’s no need to wait in what can be a 3 hour line (out in the cold) to get in. Simply arrive 15 minutes before they open the doors and you’ll be all set.
