Oct 21, 2009: Mobile Social Media Unconference at Sheraton Palo Alto Hotel

The Mobile Social Media Unconference is a gathering of strategists, community hosts, device manufacturers, service providers, and content developers to discuss the emerging opportunities and challenges that mobile communities present.

Several factors are driving the importance and relevance of this topic, most notably the fact that the number of mobile handsets in use globally dwarfs the number of personal computers. This fact, combined with the increasing sophistication of mobile devices, increasing speed of data flowing on mobile networks, the increasingly robust web experiences available via mobiles, and the explosion in interest around social networking begs the questions: what impact will mobile have on pc-bound online community experiences? And what are the unique opportunities for mobile-only experiences that transcend voice?

As we have found with our past events, the best source of information on all of these topics is other knowledgeable practitioners.

The Mobile Community Unconference is inspired by the emerging "open space" conference format. (For an excellent description, see this CNN Money article on a recent Unconferences.)

The Sheraton Palo Alto is located just across the street from Stanford, and in the heart of Silicon Valley. Lunch and snacks will be provided, and there will also be plenty of time for networking during the breaks.

An extensive Unconference FAQ has been posted here: http://www.forumonenetworks.com/msmu_faq

Asia boasts the fastest growing social networking and social media market on the planet. There are also more mobile internet users, with the Asia Pacific region, than anywhere else in the world. It is no surprise that Six Degrees is moving the series to Signapore to learn from the leading social networking publishers, developers, brands and organisations who are currently operating in this exciting region.
The event will be supported by some of the largest global brands and organisations who are using social media to effectively excecute marketing and PR strategies. The event will also learn from regional heads of the popular social networking sites to provide insight on market conditions and learn how they adapted their service to expand to this region. The event will also debate and analyse current trends, market forces and examine how brands and organisations are exploiting this new media to market products and services.

Mar 2, 2010: Emerging Communications (eComm) Spring 2010 at San Francisco Airport Marriott

Why eCommThe Emerging Communications Conference & Awards:

* Attracts executives and top influencer's from across the telecom, mobile and Internet space
* Launches real-world startups
* Explores business models and new partnership structures
* Gives stage time to cutting-edge academic projects
* Presents views from the incumbent telecom players
* Stirs required policy debates
* Promotes garage based hacks
* Brings out visionaries
* Provides a venue to meet and do business, as well as be inspired
* Showcases bleeding-edge technologies
* Provides a critical forum for all players across the full spectrum

Why Attend Fall 2009?

The mammoth sized telecom industry - including cellular - is in the process of being re-written. You either stand on the side to be written into the past or instead join with the growing community to write the future.

Opportunities to profit from the radical restructuring and in accelerating the development of how humanity connects, communicates and collaborates have never been so great.

Opportunity Doesn't Always Knock. Sometimes It Calls.

The Emerging Communications (eComm) Conference & Awards was created to promote and accelerate communications innovation.

Telecom, mobile and to a lesser extent, Internet based communications, had been innovation stagnant for far too long. Yet the opportunities for innovation had never been greater. Those opportunities are only going to grow as drastic changes further impact the multi-trillion dollar a year telecom industry. Changes include:

* Telecom is becoming software
* Today's model of the telephony and SMS cash-cows will significantly dry up long-term
* "Phones" are becoming general purpose always-on computers
* A march is underway to change how spectrum is allocated and utilised
* Applications innovation is being democratised
* The media industry is converging with personal communications
* Internet-style ecosystems are starting to pressurise the traditional value chain
* Search engines and computer manufactures are encroaching into the space
* App downloads; media content and even communication streams are increasingly routing-around operator's billing systems
* The telecom kingdom is fragmenting daily.

There is not a migratory way from where we are to the future; this means unprecedented opportunity for those ahead-of-the-curve.

The debut San Francisco Spring 2008 conference broke a lot of new ground and created a forum attracting 300 top influencer's and 80 speakers from 15 countries. San Francisco Spring 2009 built upon that foundation with world-class speakers and a 25% increase in attendees. Amsterdam Fall 2009 is the debut European event and promises to further cement the community.

InfoCamp is an unconference for anyone interested in UX, IA, user-centered design, librarianship, information management, or related fields.

It features an egalitarian, community-driven format in which presentations are designed and delivered by participants.

Folks who attended last year's InfoCamp said...

"Amazing diversity and enthusiasm. I felt like I was part of a community of passionate professionals."

"I needed a break from the rules and restrictions of the domain I work in and just explore ideas and concepts. InfoCamp totally did that for me."

"I felt much more at ease presenting at InfoCamp than I have anywhere else - the participants were amazing: they asked questions, made comments/discussion, were interested and friendly - in short, IT WAS AWESOME!"

Join us at InfoCamp Seattle 2009 on October 10 & 11!

Jul 15, 2009: Mobile Entertainment: Telecom Council Mobile Forum Meeting at Microsoft Silicon Valley Campus Conference Center

In conjunction with MEF Americas, the Telecom Council announces this quarter's Mobile Forum Meeting: Mobile Entertainment...

Now that the mobile consumer has arrived, the pressure is on content creators, aggregators and distributors to deliver a business model that works. Mobile Entertainment, a "promising" market for years, has traditionally failed to deliver. We've been hearing about the upcoming explosion of mobile video for half a decade, but the unicast/capacity and broadcast/control paradoxes have prevented success. Mobile music hasn't taken off due to carrier control, rights issues, high prices, and bandwidth constraints. Mobile gaming hit a plateau and has had trouble penetrating beyond the early adopters.

Yet despite the track record, at this juncture, it seems Mobile Entertainment finally has the foundation needed to truly advance: Powerful handsets, better UI, faster networks with more capacity, and the related growth of online web media all create the perfect storm for mobile delivery of media. Certain devices and consumer segments have demonstrated a nascent demand for entertainment devices, applications, and content.

In this meeting, we will look at the future of mobile entertainment, examine the likely business models, and discuss the ever-relevant issues of open, ownership, dumb pipes, and control. We will challenge our speakers and participants to prove to us why now is the time for mobile entertainment, and where the opportunities can be found.

This meeting is free to Council members, and $200 for non-members. Please contact Sarah@telecomcouncil.com for more information on the benefits of being a Telecom Council member.
