Oct 17, 2008: Oyster Racing Series - Portland Oregon at Pioneer Courthouse Square

Urban adventure race

There are three race options for our teams: The Oyster (traditional course with men’s, women’s and co-ed divisions), 6 Pack (the traditional course, but designed for 6-person teams like corporations or team building exercises. Three people are on the course at any given time while three rest, rehydrate and strategize) and the Family Fun Division (a shorter course consisting of 3-4 legs and 10-15 miles) .

Q: What is the Oyster Racing Series (ORS)?
A: The Oyster Racing Series (ORS) is the ultimate urban adventure race. The race tests the body and the mind in the urban jungle. It has been described by competitors as Survivor meets The Amazing Race.

Q: What is an urban adventure race?
A: An urban adventure race is the same idea as a wilderness eco race, but set in a city. The same disciplines are utilized: running, biking, hiking, floating, etc., but in an urban atmosphere. Specifically, this race will circumnavigate a major city and encompass many of its attractions and sporting locales.

Q: Who competes?
A: Anyone may compete in the ORS, from weekend warriors to elite athletes and everyone in between. There are men’s, women’s and coed teams, each made up of 3 people + an optional 1 support person. Plus, we offer corporate and family divisions.

Q: What types of activities are there?
A: There are a number of different disciplines that each team will participate in – creeking & rafting, urban trekking, running, biking, navigation, and in-line skating. Plus, there might be some surprises. Past surprises have included repelling, stair climbing and riding public transportation.

Q: Where does the race go?
A: The race will begin and end at a central location in your designated city. The rest of the course will be disclosed to racers as they begin the race and complete each subsequent leg of the race. For more information about past courses please see the Course Description on the ORS website.

Q: How long will it take?
A: That depends on the team, their endurance, strength, conditioning, navigational skills and determination. The course is designed to take the average weekend warrior approximately 4 – 8 hours to complete. Some teams may complete the course faster, and some may take longer. The course will be “swept” at the 8-hour mark.

Q: What is a “Weekend Warrior”?
A: We have defined the “Weekend Warrior” as an athlete who does moderate workouts during the week and enjoys competing and testing his/her endurance levels in a variety of events on the weekend. This may consist of partaking in a 10k run, an Olympic distance triathlon, a 1-2 hour mountain bike ride with buddies, and/or a full day of hiking or skiing. A “Weekend Warrior” in most cases, has NOT competed in an urban adventure race. If you are reading this, you are likely the “Weekend Warrior” whom this event targets.

Aug 23, 2008: 25 th Glitnir Reykjavík Marathon at Lækjargata

1984 - The first Reykjavik Marathon
In 1983, two young entrepreneurs working at a travel agency, were looking for an opportunity to interest more tourists in visiting Iceland. They came up with the idea of starting an international road race in Reykjavik. A year later the first run was held with 214 participants, Icelanders and runners from seven other nations.

Reykjavik Marathon has been held every year since and now attracts around 3500 participants every year in all distances, with more than 500 foreign runners taking part mainly in the Marathon and Half Marathon.

Aug 17, 2008: Xterra Oregon trail running championships at Wood Fire Farms

XTERRA OREGON SERIES CHAMPIONSHIPS

This event is the final event in the XTERRA OREGON Trail Running Series. There is a 5% point bonus for this event. Series Information and scoring details is available as posted on the Series page.

Location:
This event takes place entirely on private property. The land is about 10 miles East of Pacific City, Oregon. Exact location will be provided 30-days prior to the event, as no pre-event course scouting and land use will be allowed. From Portland, Oregon the start location is about one hour and twenty minutes. From Pacific City it is about 15-minutes. Lincoln City is about 35-minutes away.

Course:
The course may be the best trail course we have offered in 15-years. There are some wide open old skid roads for passing and being passed, and there are some adventurous single track sections... combine this with some rivers, and some man-made (like MOUNTAINMAN made) creations on the course. There are flat spots, there are lung busting hills, and there are a couple eye-watering downhills. All amazing. All on your private course -- thanks to Wood Fire Farms. In all, the course will cover about 6-miles. The route will be a one lapper, and aid will be available near the middle of the course. More aid needed? Carry it!

Camping:
There will be camping available at the event start/finish. Camping is FREE for all participants. If you plan to bring an RV, there will be parking, but no hook-ups. RV campers should check-in with the event a week ahead of time. This allows us to get you the best possible spot.

BONUS: There will be entertainment, and a group campfire (NO FIRES at individual campsites). There are two rivers on the property and swimming and fishing are OK. Kids welcome!

Post Event:
There will be a big BBQ after the event, and camping is available for Sunday night. Awards will be given for the Tillamook Burn, and the XTERRA OREGON Trail Running Series after the event.

Awards:
Age group and overall awards will be given out for this event, and more than $1,000 in prizes will be provided.

Updates will be posted regularly. A field limit may be set.

Jul 27, 2008: World Championship Bathtub Race at Bathtub Office

The 41st annual "Great" INTERNATIONAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BATHTUB RACE starting at 11:00 AM sharp in Nanaimo harbor for the approximate 1 ½ hour challenge in the straits of Georgia to the "PEPSI FINISH LINE" at Departure Bay.

Nanaimo harbor was the scene of a bathtub race extravaganza at the first race in 1967. As the City of Nanaimo's "Centennial Event" that year, close to 200 tubbers (in every type of craft imaginable) entered the fun competition and amazingly, 47 completed the 36 mile course to Vancouver's Fisherman's Cove across the straits of Georgia. Now the "Great RACE" finishes at Departure Bay in Nanaimo covering a very grueling course that leaves Nanaimo harbor circles Entrance Island and then up to and around Winchelsea Island and then back to Departure Bay in Nanaimo.
