Oct 21, 2008: Portland Panel Discussion: Incremental Architecture in an Agile Organization at McMenamins | Kennedy School

It's a classic Agile question: can you do good design incrementally
and iteratively? Frequently, Agile software development methods are
tagged as "architecturally weak" and "disconnected from the realities
of delivering large systems." Despite this, however, many leading
software architects are arguing for incremental development of
architectures.

Join SolutionsIQ on October 21 at Portland's Kennedy School, where a
panel of local Agile thought leaders will discuss the benefits of
incremental development of architecture in the larger program and
enterprise context, as well as approaches to better aligning
businesses with architecture goals. Concepts to be discussed include
the following:

• Emergent design techniques
• Business-driven architecture
• Who is accountable for architecture?
• Service-oriented architecture (SOA)
• Incremental platform integrations
• Enterprise architecture planning
• Managing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) implementations

Panel Members:
Arlo Belshee, Michael Lynch, Dan Rawsthorne, James Shore, Chris
Sterling, and Bryan Stallings

No admission, but register now as space is limited!

Oct 19, 2008: Software Summit 2008 at Keystone Resort Colorado

Colorado Software Summit is an intensely technical conference, created by and for professional programmers who are working with (or wishing they were working with) the latest software engineering technologies. We have a particular focus on FOSS (Free and Open Source) and Java programming and tools. Conference sessions emphasize real-world programming, with practical examples and plenty of source code to illustrate concepts and techniques. Many of the conference topics are presented by the architects and designers and lead programmers of the tools they are teaching you to use, while the remainder are taught by people who are using those tools themselves to build comprehensive projects.

Oct 21, 2008: Bootstrappers Breakfast at Coco's on Oakmead, Sunnyvale

Join Other Entrepreneurs Who Eat Problems For Breakfast.

Bootstrappers Breakfasts are for founders of early stage software startups. It is a chance to compare notes on operational, development, and business issues with peers. These breakfasts were designed for entrepreneurs to share ideas and leverage thoughts with other folks who are serious about growing their business.

At Bootstrappers Breakfast we have serious conversations about growing a business based on internal cashflow. This is not for entrepreneurs who want to meet VCs, this is for founders who are actively bootstrapping a startup. We meet in the back room at several Silicon Valley restaurants so space is limited.

These breakfasts are facilitated by SKMurphy, Inc. as a service to the Silicon Valley bootstrapper community, so there is no sales pitch from us or anyone else who attends. The first breakfast was held at Coco's in the heart of Silicon Valley in 2005. Since that time, they have grown to multiple locations through out the Bay Area.

Cost of breakfast + tip.

Oct 13, 2008: Cloud Computing - Is it ready for the Enterprise? at SAP Labs

Cloud computing is all the rage. Companies like Salesforce.com and Amazon Web Services are attracting thousands of customers, not to mention scores of headlines, with their online services. But business executives remain wary of this new trend.
Oct 14, 2008: Oxtremists Agile Software Discussion Group at Lamb and Flag

We have decided to change the focus of the group slightly. Our discussions will be around the topic of a book, but we will be discussing the topic and not the book itself, if you see what I mean. In a nutshell, if you are interested in the topic but haven't read the book it really doesn't matter!

This month we'll be talking about Domain Driven Design. The starting point for the discussions will obviously be the concepts in Eric Evans’ book, but as I said, don’t be put off if you haven’t read it. There is a good free introduction to the area in this freely downloadable book available from InfoQ.

Jun 16, 2009: Code Generation 2009 at Murray Edwards College

CG2009 is for people who want to successfully apply or just learn more about the following topics:
- Code Generation !
- Domain-Specific Languages
- Model-Driven Software Development
- Model-Driven Architecture
- Software Factories and Software Product Lines
- Eclipse Modelling Tools
- Executable UML
- Generative programming and other similar approaches.

The focus throughout the event is on practical experience of these tools and technologies with a range of sessions from beginner to expert.

WHAT PEOPLE SAID ABOUT OUR PREVIOUS EVENTS
"I'll definitely try to attend next year and will recommend this conference to my colleagues and customers."

"The combined—for that matter, individual—expertise present was remarkable, and presented a tremendous opportunity for knowledge exchange."

"The presentations were all top quality, making it often difficult to decide between the concurrently running sessions. The wealth of MDD knowledge present at the event was impressive, not only from the presenters, but from the other delegates as well."

"I enjoyed the conference very much, it has been the best conference of the last years I’ve been to. A very good selection of speakers, but I also think that the level of expertise of the audience was very high, much higher than I expected. ... it gives the opportunity to dig much deeper."

"I've been working in domain-specific modelling for a dozen years … and in this time this has been the highest-quality conference on this topic that I've been to - and I've been to a few."

"Three very long, exhausting but thoroughly enjoyable and very informative days."

"[A] great opportunity to meet with influential practitioners in the field."

1, 2 & 3 day conference packages will be available. Please visit the event web site for more information.
