Gary Baker, Managing Director of the Quine IP Law Group, will discuss recent court cases, which effectively narrow the scope of acceptable subject matter for patent protection. In Mayo v. Prometheus (U.S. Supreme Court, No. 10-1150, argued December 7, 2011 - decided March 20, 2012), the relationship between serum thiopurine metabolite levels and the efficacy or toxicity of dosing was deemed an unpatentable law of nature. The Supreme Court held that simply appending conventional steps, specified at high level of generality, to laws of nature does not provide patentable subject matter.

Mr. Baker will discuss the history leading to Prometheus and possible practical effects with regard to analytical and treatment methods claims.

The maximum number of presenters is ten.

Entrepreneurs not yet ready to pitch, or if there is no slot available, are encouraged to register and attend. By listening to the pitches, the Q&A, and the critiques you will learn key points to develop an effective pitch.

During the evening, entrepreneurs on our Pitch List will present their pitches to the entire room. Our panel of early stage investors will ask questions and provide brief feedback. Please note that pitching time limits will be strictly enforced! After the two minute pitch, there will be four minutes of Q&A by the panel, followed by one minute of non-rebuttal feedback from each panelist.
Our lively panel discussion and Q&A will also provide critical insight into what it takes to raise capital today.
