Oct 30, 2008: Creatures of Impulse to present Tri-Valley High - Episodes of Terror at Veterans Memorial Building

At each performance, the audience will be involved in creating the story from start to finish. When the members of the troupe take the stage, they will ask for suggestions from the audience to help develop their characters.

"We invite teens and their friends and families to join Creatures of Impulse in creating Tri-Valley High: Episodes of Terror," says Civic Arts Youth Program Coordinator Mark Duncanson. "We'll enjoy two nights of fun, interactive, and completely unscripted theater and, in addition, everyone is invited to come to our free mini-carnival from 5:30-7:00 p.m., before the shows begin."

"This is a show for teens, by teens and about teens," adds Duncanson. "It is long-form improvisation, where the actors are inspired by participation from the audience and the story evolves according to actors' interpretation of the input they receive. Because of that, people coming to the show on both nights are sure to see two entirely different productions."

$10 in advance; $15 at the door - Amador Theater Box Office. Box office hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and for two hours prior to the performance.

Dec 2, 2008: Jesus Christ Superstar at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall

Jesus Christ Superstar, starring Ted Neeley, returns to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, December 2 & 3, 2008 for two performances only!

The first collaboration between Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be performed on
the professional stage, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is one of the most popular
and enduring works ever created for the musical theater. Featuring such notable
songs as Superstar, Everything’s Alright and I Don’t Know How to Love Him,
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR earned five TONY nominations.

Set in two acts, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR tells the story of the final seven
days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. SUPERSTAR dramatizes Jesus' entry into
Jerusalem, the unrest caused by his preaching and popularity, his betrayal by
Judas, the trial before Pontius Pilate, and his ultimate crucifixion. Perpetually
changing the face of musical theatre JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, will leave
audiences captivated by its power.

As relevant and timeless as ever, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, the rock opera
vision of “the greatest story ever told,” is perhaps more potent in today’s troubled
world than when it was first produced. Now, for the new millennium, this
magnificent story comes once again vividly to the stage with Ted Neeley recreating
his unforgettable performance.

Internationally beloved star Ted Neeley, best known for his Golden Globe
nominated role as Jesus in the Norman Jewison film of SUPERSTAR will be
headlining this tour of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. While Ted has enjoyed a
distinguished career in resident theaters throughout America, appearing in a wide
variety of productions from Hair to the works of Samuel Beckett he is world
renowned for the title role in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. Creating a fan
base that borders on a cult-like phenomenon, this production heralds the long
awaited triumphant return of Ted Neeley in the title role of JESUS CHRIST
SUPERSTAR.

Oct 17, 2008: 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' Comes to Amador Theater at Amador Theater

Oct 19 & 26 2:00 pm; Oct 17, 18, 24 & 25 8:00 pm.

In this classic story of a superstitious town, bumbling schoolmaster Ichabod Crane insists he does not believe in the infamous Headless Horseman. However, when a dark figure on a horseback follows him home one night, Ichabod screams in terror and shows that he is as superstitious as everyone else.

"We chose the Kathryn Schultz Miller adaptation of the story because it is particularly clever and fun, using some actual text from the original story," says Director Rebecca Ennals. "Along with the lead roles, there is an ensemble of actors of all ages who play multiple parts and act as storytellers. They portray people, animals and even towns in creative, theatrical ways, both physical and verbal. Some animals are actually puppets created by the ensemble from objects that may have been found in a farm village in the 1780s."

Acting in the production is a particular delight to Michael Bruner, who plays Brom Bones and the Headless Horseman. Bruner, who normally works back stage at the Amador Theater for City of Pleasanton, auditioned for the show after two years away from acting. "After doing other kinds of productions in the past, community theater is just wonderful," he says. "All the cast members are there because they are passionate about acting and everyone gets along really well. We're having a blast creating a show that is really scary and humorous at the same time."

Young actor Morgan Werder, a fifth grader at Fairlands Elementary, agrees, "Community theater is a lot of fun and a lot of hard work. We're like a family with lots of different personalities. We bond with the other actors and learn from each other."

"I think the audience is going to like this play very much," she adds. "It's very interactive and has something for everybody - rivalry, love, suspense and, of course, the Headless Horseman!"

Adult: $14, $18 and $20 and Child: $8, $12 and $16.
FINAL SOLUTIONS
(English)
A play about bias, bigotry and bloodshed
Adapted & Directed by Harish Sunderam Agastya

ABOUT THE PLAY
This critically acclaimed play by Sahitya Akademi award-winning playwright Mahesh Dattani examines the never-ending saga of Hindu-Muslim conflict in India. Which "side" should take the blame for the madness? What does the future hold? The play ponders these difficult questions through the lens of three generations of a middle-class Gujarati family as they harbor two Muslim boys during a communal riot. Through a stylishly choreographed "mob" that represents the collective voice of either community, and a narrative that slickly moves back and forth between today and 1947, Final Solutions makes us rethink our own communal prejudices and perceptions.

Nov 7, 2008: Jasmin Vardimon Company at Northcott Exeter

Jasmin Vardimon Company (JVC) is one of Britain’s most pioneering physical dance theatre companies, creating work that excites both the eye and the mind by pushing the boundaries of human physicality whilst engaging in universal, contemporary themes that strike an emotional chord.

Vardimon’s powerful art of story-telling integrates multiple layers of communication - combining dance, movement, video, animation, text and music. Her sharp instincts and keen observations of human behaviour deliver beautifully precise characterisation, powerfully brought to life by her company of versatile dancers. Cast from around the world, each performer brings his/her own unique experience, with dynamic results.

Celebrating the company’s 10th anniversary, YESTERDAY revisits and reworks selected moments from previous JVC productions. Developing past ideas with a fresh vision and a breadth of experience, this new work remains as socially relevant and stirring as ever.

YESTERDAY revisits highlights from: Justitia (UK tour); PARK (UK tour presented by the Dance Touring Partnership); Lullaby (UK & International tour); Ticklish, Tête and Lure Lure Lure (UK & International tours).

Oct 12, 2008: Jasmin Vardimon Company at The Junction
