This will be our first “Bristol Knowledge Unconference”, and so it is a bit experimental at the moment. So it should be fun!
The event will be “themed” around the general subject of Knowledge, which includes:

* The Semantic Web / Linked Data / Hyperdata / Data Web
* Web Science
* Topic Maps
* Information Architecture and Design
* Knowledge Acquisition
* Knowledge-Based Systems, Knowledge Engineering and Rule-Based Systems (etc)
* Knowledge/Information Visualisation and Graphical User Interfaces
* Knowledge-orientated Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
* and maybe even, Object Oriented Databases

An unconference is more social, more hands-on and a lot less formal than a usual conference, it is also attendee orientated (meaning that the people who attend will generate the content of the event, there is little prior content organisation). The Bristol Knowledge Unconference also has a specific theme (Knowledge) and a specific location (Bristol, UK).

Was ist ein BarCamp?

Ein BarCamp ist eine Ad-hoc-Nicht-Konferenz (Unconference), die zum ersten Mal 2005 in San Francisco und im deutschen Sprachraum zum ersten Mal im September 2006 in Wien stattfand.

Barcamps sind aus dem Bedüfnis heraus entstanden, dass sich Menschen in einer offenen Umgebung austauschen und voneinander lernen können. Es ist eine intensive Veranstaltung mit Diskussionen, Präsentationen, und Interaktion der Teilnehmer untereinander.

Jeder, der etwas beizutragen hat oder etwas lernen will, ist willkommen und herzlich eingeladen mitzumachen.

Für den Fall, dass du mitmachst, stell dich darauf ein, dich mit anderen Barcampern auszutauschen.
Wenn du gehst, sei bereit, deine Erfahrungen mit dem Rest der Welt zu teilen.

1st Rule: You do talk about Bar Camp.
2nd Rule: You do blog about Bar Camp.
3rd Rule: If you want to present, you must write your topic and name in a presentation slot.
4th Rule: Only three word intros.
5th Rule: As many presentations at a time as facilities allow for.

What do I need?
Tent, laptops, wifi, food, drink, coffee, white boards, AV equipment and whatever else you need. You'll obviously need power, so you're going to have to work out how to bring some of that too (solar, wind, pedal etc). With this unconference we're going to be off the electricity grid completely.

It was a reaction to Technology of Tomorrow.

WHAT IS CON-X-TREME?

CON-X-TREME is volunteer-run event held this year over the extended Labor Day weekend at the San Mateo Marriott Hotel. The primary area of emphasis is focused on the creation of art and other media, traditional and non-traditional, without the limitation of holding true to a certain theme or topic.
While some may view this as simply it is another anime or science fiction convention event, the real opportunities this event brings forward is an opportunity for fans of all mediums to meet and network with both other fans and professionals alike. Whether it be physical art, virtual art, film & television, video games or music, CON-X-TREME attempts to have compelling, knowledgeable, and well-spoken Guests of Honor who are willing to spend time sharing their experiences within their respective industries, mentoring our attendees through discussion panels, classroom instruction, and other programming events.
Throughout each day of the weekend event, CON-X-TREME presents curriculum through a series of classroom programming where event members may participate in the discussion or hands-on study of particular subjects.
CON-X-TREME is not all classrooms, lectures, and study however, as we temper much of the proceeding with many other programming alternatives including, but not limited to, the following:
v A 24-hour anime programming room featuring professional and fan-created animation videos and programs;
v A room dedicated to premiering the latest in console and computer video games and technology;
v Dedicated space for costume gatherings and workshops which will culminate in a full costume contest event;
v Event space which promotes and displays artwork from many of the Bay Area’s most vibrant and popular artists;
All in all, CON-X-TREME aspires to provide opportunities for the truly creative side of fans and professionals to mix freely within an environment which inspires creativity and spontaneity.
