THE FOUR PREPS
In the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, the group amassed eight gold singles and three gold albums. Its million-selling signature tunes include "26 Miles," "Big Man," "Lazy Summer Night," and "Down by the Station." The current incarnation of The Four Preps features the original lead singer, Bruce Belland, Bob Duncan, Joe Dickey and Skip Taylor.

THE BUCK RAM PLATTERS
The Platters were one of the most successful vocal groups of the 1950s. Starting with their first hit Only You, the group had 15 gold records and 22 consecutive appearances on the Billboard charts. They spent 211 uninterrupted weeks on the charts, and became the first black group to make the Top Ten Pop Chart. The Platters' greatest hit songs include "The Great Pretender," "You've Got the Magic Touch," "My Prayer" and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes."

THE SAFARIS, FEATURING JIMMY STEPHENS
As lead singer of the Safaris, Jimmy recorded "Image of A Girl" in 1960, and it became an instant hit in the Los Angeles area, followed closely by increasing popularity across the country and the world. With eventual sales of over 1,000,000 copies worldwide, the group toured all over the country with the Platters, Fabian, Brenda Lee and many others.

The "Livermore's 2010 Talent Competition" is now accepting applications. Top winners in each of two categories - youth (17 and under) and adults (18 and over) - will each take home $2,500. If you've always wanted to appear on a professional stage but didn't know how to get there here's an opportunity to perform in the 500 seat Bankhead Theater in Livermore - and win $2500 while you're at it.

There will also be a People's Choice Award selected by online and event text voting.

This competition will feature singers, dancers, bands, pianists, magicians, comedians and other types of performances. Aspiring performers from anywhere are invited to audition and compete. Information and applications for auditions are available at LivermoresTalentCompetition.com. Applications must be received by December 31, 2009.

The semi-finals will be open to the public on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at the 500 seat Bankhead Theater in front of a five-judge panel. The finals will be on Sunday, February 28, 2010, also at the Bankhead.

Each contestant is required to submit an audition video or a link to a YouTube video clip. The acts can be 4 minutes in length. All of the submitted videos will be reviewed and the first round winners will perform in the semi-finals. The winners of these will move on to the finals.

The competition is sponsored by the Rotary clubs of Livermore. Proceeds will benefit the Rotary community grant programs that assist community service organizations.
