Mar 27, 2010: Lost Civilizations experimental music project, Seijiro Murayama and Chris Forsyth @ Sonic CIrcuits @ Pyramid Atlantic Art Center! at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center

On March 27, 2010, the Lost Civilizations experimental music project will be sharing the stage with Seijiro Murayama and Chris Forsyth at the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center. Here's some information about Messr. Murayama & Forsyth:

Seijiro Murayama: Born in 1957, in Nagasaki, Japan, percussionist, drummer, worked with Fred Frith, Tom Cora, Keiji Haino, KK Null between 1980 and 1998.

Since 1999 lives and works in France.

Music Activities:

Now he plays in different formats:

-Solo with a snare drum and a cymbal (amplified or acoustic), sometimes with a drum kit.

-Duo with Jean-Luc Guionnet (alto sax), Eric Cordier (amplified hardy gardy), Stéphane Rive (soprano sax), Tim Blechmann (computer), Didier Lasserre (percussion).

-Trio with Thierry Madiot (bass trombone etc) and Pascal Battus (prepared guitar)

-Off-cells: with Taku Unami (guitar), Uta Kawasaki (analog synthesizer), Takahiro Kawaguchi (objects)

He collaborated with some contemporary dance/theater/performance groups as a composer-musician.

His artistic principal is especially to work with the idea of the interdisciplinarity between music and

other disciplines of art: dance, video, paintings, photos, literature etc: approaching ‘a stranger’ to do something constructive with them.

In the same way, he collaborates with musicians, composers, and sound artists: Pascale Criton, Mattin, soundworm, Toshimaru Nakamura, Toshiya Tsunoda, Robin Hayward, Axel Dörner, Klaus Filip,Thomas Tilly, Benjamin Thigpen, Didier Aschour, Damien Grange, Tomaz Grom, Ntoko.

Even if his music has evolved since last years by the practice of writing compositions, improvisation is still his major artistic concern (workshops of improvisation in Japan, Italy, France, Slovenia).

His approach is based on the attention to space and place, to the energy of the audience, and to the quality of silence in various levels.

His solo is a kind of continuum with microscopic sounds. He uses a snare drum and a cymbal with brushes, sticks etc and air and contact microphones (in order to work on the edge of perceptions).

Otherwise, he develops, by means of texts, his reflections about the framework of the ” concert ” system, the relationship with the audience, etc.

http://seijiro.murayama.name

Chris Forsyth is a founding member (with Jaime Fennelly and Fritz Welch) of Peeesseye, a post-everything amalgam of minimalist rock, noise, folk, drone, psych, improv, sound poetry, and absurdity that has produced seven CDs, one 7-inch, and over 160 concerts in Europe and the US since forming in 2002. He frequently performs solo on both electric and acoustic 6- and 12-string guitars and is a member of the elusive experimental group Phantom Limb & Bison. Other notable collaborators have included reductionist/blues guitarist Tetuzi Akiyama, trumpeter Nate Wooley, and choreographers Miguel Gutierrez and RoseAnne Spradlin, plus an international cast of improvisors, experimenters, and rockers too numerous too mention here. He released his second solo record, Dreams, on LP in September 2009 on Evolving Ear. Other recent and upcoming releases include the Dirty Pool LP, with Farfisa organist Shawn Edward Hansen, on Ultramarine, the Chris Forsyth + Nate Wooley CDR The Duchess is Dead, Long Live the Duchess on Chocolate Monk, and a long list of Peeesseye projects, including the Robust Commercial Fucking Scream six-cassette live anthology on Digitalis. He is the caretaker of Evolving Ear and lives in the City of Philadelpha, USA.

"It's enough to signal Forsyth's arrival as an erudite and farsighted guitar stylist, mapping a path that's hip and scholarly in equal measure." - Daniel Spicer, The Wire Magazine

"A destructible charm teetering on violence and elegance" - Eric Weddle (Family Vineyard), Signal to Noise Magazine

"This is the best solo guitar record since Donald Miller's A Little Treatise on Morals. Keep your eyes on this guy." - David Keenan, The Wire Magazine

"Killer on every level." - Foxy Digitalis
