Description:
The Birchmere is a Music Hall, which differs from a regular nightclub in that we are completely seated (except Band Stand, see below), i.e. no standing room or dancing. Also known as a Listening Room, The Birchmere is geared towards artists & fans who prefer a seated, attentive audience, ready to listen to The Music! And eat some good food.
The Birchmere Box Office open at 5pm, any night there is a performance. Music Hall opens & seating begins at 6pm. Food Service also begins at this time. Shows start at 7:30pm (unless otherwise noted).
The Band Stand is the area where we have dance-oriented shows at The Birchmere. There is a large padded wood dance floor in front of the stage, surrounded by tables & chairs. There is limited seating for Band Stand shows (i.e. if you really want a table, get here early). All food & drink services are available in the Band Stand, even if you're not sitting at a table.
Line Numbers are not used for Band Stand shows. Venue doors open at 6pm for Band Stand shows, at which time seating is completely general admission, first come first served. The Box office will be open at 5pm, but seating will not begin until 6pm for all Bandstand show, and 8pm for "Late Shows."
Late Shows will happen in the Band Stand, unless otherwise noted. Venue doors will open
at 8pm for seating, but the Box Office will still open at 5pm to pick up Will Call tickets. Line Numbers are not used for Late shows, seating is general admission, first come first served. Late Shows will start as soon as the early show in the Music Hall ends, approx 9:30/10pm. The full dinner & drink menu will be available for late shows. Food service will end approx 10:30pm. For additional information about a specific Late Show, please visit the Calendar page of the website. We will be updating regularly with pertinent show info, like door times & ticket availability.
Tickets are available through Ticketmaster & the Birchmere Box Office. All Ticketmaster outlets (i.e. Hechts, Tower Recs, etc) in the MD/DC/NoVa area do sell tickets for Birchmere events. From Richmond south & Baltimore north, Ticketmaster outlets do NOT sell Birchmere tix. Via phone, call (202)397-SEAT, (703)573-SEAT or (410)547-SEAT. Via Internet, tix available at www.Ticketmaster.com.
The Birchmere does NOT sell tickets over the phone. The only way to buy tickets from The Birchmere directly is at our Box Office, from 5-9pm, show days only. All Birchmere tickets ordered via phone or online will be waiting at Will Call, night of show. Will Call tickets are only available for pickup night of show after 5pm, at Birchmere Box Office.
If you cannot attend a show, but would like someone else to pick up your Will Call tickets, all they need is the Ticketmaster Confirmation Number & they need to know the name the tickets were ordered under.
Ticketmaster service charges are set up by Ticketmaster & we do not have any say in the matter. At the Birchmere Box Office, we have a $3.50 service charge* per ticket. This charge is for our Box Office Staff, Parking, & Security. "We want you here, happy & safe!".
The Birchmere is general admission, with all seating done on a first come, first served basis, all at tables (except Band Stand, see below). To keep the process orderly, we use Line Numbers.
At 5pm, when the Box Office opens, we begin handing out Line Numbers to customers as they come to the Box Office. Then, at 6pm when the Music Hall doors open, we begin seating by Line Number (i.e. the first person in at 5pm will be the first person in the Music Hall at 6pm). *Line Numbers are NOT used for Band Stand shows or Late Shows.
Reserved seats are not available. You may see Reserved signs at times, but these are for the Artists' guests and VIP's. We try to keep these as limited as possible.
At 5pm, when the doors open, our Bar opens. Kitchen opens at 6pm, when Music Hall opens & seating begins. The Birchmere has a full service kitchen & complete drink service. There are no minimums. For Late Shows, food & drink service will begin at 8pm. Food service will be available until 10:30pm. See Menu link.
The Birchmere is all ages, all the time. Everyone needs a ticket. There are no discount rates, for groups or anyone. There is no dress code. Please gentlemen, no tank tops or cutoffs.
The Birchmere is completely handicap accessible.
There is lighted, secure parking on site at The Birchmere. Cost of parking is included in the Birchmere box office service charge. For Late shows, some overflow parking may occur across the street. There is not a Metro Station in walking distance to The Birchmere. The best stop to use is Pentagon City (not Pentagon), as it is approx. 5 miles from club & there are always plenty of cabs available.
There are many hotels near the Birchmere, as we're located just 5 miles from Reagan National Airport/Crystal City & near old town Alexandria. Some suggestions:
Holiday Inn National Airport, (703)684-7200
Courtyard Marriott Crystal City (703)549-3434
Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Old Town, (703)548-6300
Radisson Hotel Old Town, (703)683-6000
Yes. If a show is sold out, it is SOLD OUT. We do not have a waiting list, & we cannot re-sell tickets for people who don't show up. However, sometimes an Artist does not use all the tickets we hold for them. If that happens, the tickets are released at 5pm, day of show, at the Birchmere Box Office only. You must be here in person, and there's no guarantee any tickets will be released. You cannot call to have tickets held.
