Description:
[Friendly, volunteer-powered, extremely uniquely decorated all-ages alternative music and arts venue. Via the website:]
Physically, we are a music and arts venue located in the New Haven area in southern Connecticut. Two stories and five thousand square feet of agendas and creativity all coming together in a flurry of expression. We hold a professional recording studio, rehearsal rooms, a lounge, coffee/tea bar, merchandise store, and a national-size venue inside our nondescript brick walls. Outside there are close to two hundred parking spaces. All for you. Always for you.
On Fridays and Saturdays live music finds a home on the first floor of our club, with room enough for your eight-piece ensemble and 150 of your close, personal friends. (The ceiling is a little low in places, though, so take care when jumping for joy.) On these nights, national touring acts peddle alongside local bands and we take care in assembling bills that make sense, are well-attended, and serve everyone involved in some fashion. Furthermore, all our shows are all-ages (i.e. non-alcoholic) and smoke free.
Tuesdays are home to The Space?s popular open mic, which has existed for over three years as a place to meet new friends and find a truly encouraging listening atmosphere. Unknown acts traveling through town can play the feature slot and come away with a hundred new fans they never had before. Local artists can (and have) made their quiet debut at the open mic, only to be playing the featured slot with a full band and some tight songs a year later.
