Description:
The Synergy Centre has been conceived to offer educational courses and work-based learning opportunities focusing on the 'creative and cultural industries', passing on the experience and knowledge of working in the creative economy to enable other young people to develop their skills and their own creative or holistic education projects. The Centre will also seek to work in partnership with local agencies and communities in the London boroughs of Southwark and Lambeth to tackle the growing problem of anti-social behaviour by offering local young people more constructive outlets for their creative energies.

To achieve these aims, the Centre

* provides community facilities and space where a wide variety of people can gather to experience and best practice in incubating social enterprises in and creative industries and holistic education sectors.

* work based learning in the use of creative media, project management and development and in a wide variety of techniques, practices and awareness associated with ethical and sustainable living.

* acts as a resource base where workshops, presentations and exhibitions in a variety of personal and social development and empowerment techniques take place.

* houses a community arts venue for the development and presentation of a wide variety of both professional and community arts projects, injecting a sense of local community and identity and regenerating a pride of place in the neighbourhood.

* builds partnerships with a broad range of individuals and groups within local and national voluntary and community organisations, educational institutions and statutory authorities.

Getting Involved

The Centre is currently looking for people to get involved in a number of different areas, through running or taking part in projects and activities or helping with the day to day running of the centre. We welcome participation at all levels. We are keen to identify which activities local people would most like see take place at the centre and so shape the Centres programme of activities to best meet community needs. We are particularly keen to support projects which celebrate the cultural diversity of the community. If you have any ideas of suggestions please get in touch.
