Description:
The rich and opulent interior reflects an Indian rock-hewn temple, and Indian motifs abound; seated Buddhas, twisted columns, elephants, bas-relief figures, domed ceilings and of course the famous Abyssinian Panthers - often referred to as lions - with their glowing green eyes, have all been faithfully restored.
The theatre seats up to 2,379 people, and is designed to be used mainly for seasons of touring musicals and shows. In addition it is regularly used in its original role as a picture palace, being the main home of the annual Auckland International Film Festival.
Enclosed within the same building are several smaller venues and the famous Winter Garden, perfect for comedy, cabaret and for exclusive dinners.
