Description:
Sheffield?s canal basin was opened in 1819 as the terminus of the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal and in doing so connected Sheffield to the sea for the first time via the Trent and the Humber. The area was used for commercial use until the early 1970?s but afterwards was left in a derelict state. In 1992 the area was redeveloped and renamed Victoria Quays, due to its proximity to the former Victoria Railway Station. The Quayside now includes a marina, and a cluster of hotels, houseboats, specialist shops, restaurants and residential flats.
