Description:
American Industrial Art Gallery
Beloit Ironworks Building
Forged in 1858 along the banks of the Rock River, the Beloit Ironworks became the worlds largest manufacturer of paper making machines. Craftsman brought straight from Ellis Island formed the base of a diverse, ingenious workforce that evolved through many generations into the widely respected Beloit Corporation.
More than a century later, Beloit paper making machines remain in production service throughout the world. The Beloit Corporation did not survive the corporate raiders of the 1990’s , and the manufacturing complex shut down.
Today though, the Ironworks campus is revitalized and serves as a vibrant city center featuring mixed urban usage. A large commitment to public art is evident throughout the complex. An outdoor mural “Forged on the Rock” graces the riverwalk as tribute to past ironworks. The Ironworks is home to the American Industrial Art Gallery which features nine thousand square feet of display area for artistic reinterpretations of the original hardwood paper making patterns.
The gallery will serve as host to Wisconsin Theatreworks.
