Description:
Richard Hugo House is a 16,206-square-foot Victorian house that dates to 1902. Before the organization bought it in August 1997, the house had been used as a mortuary, an apartment house and a theater complex. In addition to administrative offices, the house includes:
an 86-seat theater (that can be reconfigured to hold more than 150);
a cafe with a cabaret stage;
a Member Library with computers;
the Zine Archive and Publishing Project (facilities for independent magazine publishers);
two multi-purpose rooms;
a conference room;
and an art gallery.
The house also provides rented office space to several smaller literary organizations. There is adjoining parking for some two dozen cars. (See the directions page if you want to learn how to get here.)
You are welcome to drop by during regular hours (9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday to Friday, and noon-5 p.m. Saturday). If you wish to tour the house, the best times are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays, when staff may be available to guide you. Most of our spaces are available to rent for public and private events (which have ranged from theater productions to birthday parties).
