Hinamatsuri, or the Girls' Day Dolls Festival, will be presented from 10am to 4pm on Sunday March 1 at the newly opened Hawaii Japanese Center at 751 Kanoelehua Avenue in Hilo. Admission is $3, with no charge for keiki under age of 5, for this fun and entertaining cultural experience.
Experience the "Art of Tea", a tea ceremony demonstration by the Urasenke School of Tea. There will be a display of different Japanese Girls' Day dolls, a bonsai display and a demonstration on how to create a bonsai plant. A Kids Craft Corner will be sponsored by Ben Franklin crafts. Enter a poster drawing and win a prize. There will also be Ikebana display by local practioners of the traditional art of floral design. Big Island crafters will participate and there will be lucky number drawings throughout the day. Great family event. All proceeds raised will help fun the center, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The Hawaii Japanese Center's mission is "Preserving the past to Build a Future".
