Max Square is a town square located at the west end of Adams Avenue in La Grande, Oregon. This location is directly across from City Hall on one corner and the F. Maxine and Thomas W. Cook Memorial Library on another corner. Mamacita's International Grill is located on one side of the square. Max Square features a stage, decorative concrete bleachers, regular benches, shade trees, shrubbery, lighting and plenty of room for people, booths or displays. A statue of “Cast Iron Mary" is located at the square. "Cast Iron Mary" was originally erected by the Women’s Christian Temperance Union to discourage drinking. Ironically the original statue was destroyed by marauding bootleggers. The current version is a replica. There is lots of free parking on the street and in nearby parking lots. View a panorama showing the Library, Farmers Market at Max Square, and City Hall.
