Now in its third year with the vibe of a village fete, Meditation in the Park (
http://www.meditationinthepark.com/) is a lottery-funded, community event at which there is absolutely nothing to buy but lots to be had.
It takes place in the beautiful Russia Dock Woodlands (Rotherhithe), June 26th 2011. It is in zone 2 and the closest station is Canada Water (Jubilee Line & Overground trains). This gem of a park is only a 10-15 minute's walk from the station. Alternatively, you can take the C10 or 381 buses to get there.
This event is organised by people of Rotherhithe for the entire London community. People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to join and take part.
A number of events and demonstrations that involve delicious natural food, yoga and meditation mini-workshops, taught freely by experts, and local nature tours run concurrently throughout the afternoon.
What makes this event unique is that people are encouraged to leave their money at home, yet bring back home something nice, learn something useful and be part of a wonderful community. It is based on values, such as giving, not taking.
The purpose of this family-friendly event is to show how to live fully and enjoy life as much as possible while honouring a unique ecological urban space where well-behaved pets are very welcome.
This event is organised in a voluntary capacity by professionals of various backgrounds who live in the area. Meditation in the Park is partly funded by the Awards for All Lottery Fund and supported by local businesses and residents, and stallholders of Borough Market.
