On June 1, 2004, the newthinking store in Berlin opened.
The newthinking store is the worldwide first LinuxTrendStore. Here, interested laywomen and -men, as well as technical professionals, find all information about the free operating system GNU/Linux.

?People come to us, find information. We are offering a variety of possibilities for customers to go more into detail about Free Software. Test computers, software packages, magazines, books and information material ? all that the future Linux user may need,? stated Andreas Gebhard, managing director of the newthinking store GmbH, during the opening press conference in Berlin.

In an aesthetic, non-technical space, in the middle of the gallery and art scene of Berlin Mitte, the newthinking store offers a simple entry into the world of Free Software and GNU/Linux for everybody. ?Many people think of a sophisticated operating system for experts when thinking about Linux, the newthinking store proves the opposite,? Andreas Gebhard explained further.

?We want to offer the possibility to experience the world of Free Software to people with all levels of computer experience, even to those with none. The perspectives for Linux on the desktop are great. Within three years at the latest, about 10% of all computers will be running Linux on the desktop. This development is non-reversible. The newthinking store is a perfect way of distributing Linux. We are the first store in Berlin to offer computers with pre-installed SuSE Linux 9.2?

Besides the possibility to buy products and literature in the newthinking store, the Linux TrendStore is also a space for events. It hosts regular informational events on Linux and Free Software, directed to beginners, advanced users and pros alike. A second focus will cover the topic information society with all its facets.
