Description:
Area musicians will meet to perform the first of what we hope will become a yearly event on August 11, 2012 at 7PM in the Ava Performing Arts Center. The event, called SUMMERSCAPE, will host musicians representing five Arkansas and Missouri symphony orchestras. Tickets are 10 dollars each and are available at the door. Tickets can also be purchased at Marriott Music in Ava, Missouri (683-2777) or from Becky Cash at the Willow Springs Art Council in Willow Springs, Missouri (417-962-0979).
SUMMERSCAPE 2012 will feature a premier solo performance by Danyal Collins, violinist from Ava Missouri, playing Saint-Saen’s Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso for violin and orchestra. Ms. Collins is the concertmaster of the Southern Ozarks Chamber orchestra, and her teachers include Darwyn Apple of the Saint Louis Symphony and David Hays of the Springfield Symphony. Other works include Samual Barber’s Adagio for Strings (featured as music in the final scene of the movie Platoon), a short classical symphony by Josef Saint-George, a haunting and jazzy arrangement of the folk song All the Pretty Little Horses and the American Composer Edward MacDowell’s Suite Number 2 “Indian.”
The group, conducted by Barbara Deegan, will have representatives from the Springfield Symphony, Missouri State University Symphony, and the Southern Ozarks Chamber Orchestra in Missouri. There are also representatives from Mountain Home Symphony, Delta Symphony, Batesville Community Orchestra, Northern Arkansas Symphony, and the Arkansas Symphony in Arkansas. 30 musicians will come together for a day of music making and present a concert before returning to their home groups for the fall season. Special guests are David Hays, concertmaster of the Springfield Symphony; Barbara Reeve, concertmaster of the Delta Symphony; Alan Clack, violist with the Arkansas Symphony; and Patricia Cox, President Emeritus of Harding University and author of Growing Into the Role Empowerment of a Music Educator Through Application of a Symbolic Interaction Theory http://act.maydaygroup.org/articles/Cox3_3.pdf For a complete list of musicians, visit out Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tnmn#!/2012summerscape
